Silesian String Quartet in Markowa

The Silesian String Quartet is one of the leading Polish chamber groups, enjoying international fame. In the first years of his existence, he improved his skills under the guidance of musicians from such quartets as LaSalle, Amadeus, Juilliard, Smetana or Alban Berg. Today, the Silesian String Quartet gives concerts on stages in most European countries as well in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China and South Korea. He has performed in many renowned halls such as Konzerthaus in Vienna, deSingel in Antwerp, Schauspielhaus in Berlin, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Salle Pleyel in Paris, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico. Since 2014, the quartet regularly appears in the NOSPR Chamber Hall with its own series of concerts. The Silesian String Quartet is a laureate of many awards and decorations. Among the most important are the Golden Cross of Merit (1999), the Orpheus prize for the best performance of the work Polish composer during the Warsaw Autumn festival (2002), Gold Honorary Badge for Merits for the Province Śląski (2005), Silver Medal “Merited to Culture – Gloria Artis “(2008). Silesian chamber musicians have a very rich phonographic output. They record the music of many eras, but they focus on Polish music of the last few decades. The band’s recordings can be found on nearly 50 albums released by such labels, as ECM, EMI Music Poland, Olympia, Chandos, Naxos, CD Accord, but also by Radio Katowice. The band has been nominated many times and is the winner of six awards from the Polish phonographic industry, Fryderyk. In 2017, for recording a set of string quartets Grażyna Bacewicz (Chandos), Silesian String Quartet was awarded the prestigious Gramophone Classical Music Award in the category “The best album of the year with chamber music”.
