On May 18, we had the pleasure to participate in the Symposium of the Remembrance Culture of the Ulma Family Museum inaugurating the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Museum of Poles Saving Jews “Ulma Family Museum – Museum of Poles Saving Jews – Museum in Markowa space”.
The inaugural speech: Władysław Ortyl, Marshal and representative of the organizer on the side of the Self-Government of the Podkarpackie Province.
The main lecture “Markowa: Museum in the landscape of a place and in an imaginary landscape” by prof. Dorota Folga-Januszewska, museologist, researcher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, deputy director of the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów, former chairman of the Polish Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). Guests – Dr. Mateusz Szpytma, Deputy President of the Institute of National Remembrance, Wit Karol Wojtowicz, Director of the Castle Museum in Łańcut, Bogdan Romaniuk, representatives of local authorities of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Łańcut poviat and Markowa commune and representatives science and museology: Mr. Paweł Jaskanis, Director of the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace at Wilanów, prof. Jan Święch, Head of the Department of Museology Theory and Ethnographic Documentation of the Jagiellonian University, Dr. Renata Pater, Assistant Professor of the Institute of Pedagogy of the Jagiellonian University, as well as representatives of the local community, including descendants of the Ulma family and other families from Markowa, who helped Polish citizens at risk during World War II Jewish nationality.
A main point of the program was the signing of the declaration on the establishment of the Museum Confederation for the “Museum in the Brand Space” Program by the Museum of Poles Saving Jews and the Society of Brand Friends.
