At the dawn on 14th of December 1942 around 20 Jews were killed by the German Gendarmerie in a place called “Okop” in Markowa. Most of the killed people were members of well known Markowa families: Zeilig, Trinczer, Einhorn and Neuberg.

The execution was preceded by a round-up: a day before execution Germans oredered local navy-blue police and volunteer firefighters to carry search for hiding Jews. People cought during this action were incarcerated in local arrest.

At 75th anniversary of the round-up and the execution Museum of Poles Saving Jews honor memory of the victims of those atrocities at the place where Jews were killed and at cemetery in Jagiełła– Niechciałka, where they were entombed.
