The Jewish Combat Organisation (ŻOB) was formed on 28th July 1942 in the Warsaw ghetto. Its commander was Mordechai Anielewicz. Local branches were also formed in Krakow, Czestochowa, Bedzin and Sosnowiec. Through the Jewish National Committee, ŻOB was subordinated to the Government Delegation for Poland. It collaborated closely with the Home Army, which supported it wherever it was possible. ŻOB combatants who survived the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising took part in the Warsaw Uprising a year later.
